TORTE!

It's a mixed review from me...love to make it, hate to eat it. The hubby loved it. How do I know? I left for 3 days after I made this and when I got home, it was all gone...all evidence was gone, he even licked - I MEAN - washed the pan clean..

The Chocolate Banded Ice Cream Torte......now, this was FUN to make. (see messiness above!) I loved making the ganache - even with the raw eggs but of course, I didn't like it. Too much chocolate for me.

However, I would make it again because it would be stunning to show guests that love chocolate. It is a little sweaty in the pic above - I had just removed the outer bowl. I used an angel food cake pan and it worked well.

Served with a little whipped cream and the hubby loved it. I ate the ice cream out of mine! It was yummy.
Check out more of these at TWD or check Amy's site for the recipe.
Love you momma!

Easy Peasey Granola Grabbers

This week for TWD the recipe is Granola Grabbers. I had everything on hand except the coconut which I RELUCTANTLY went to the store to get and added. Apparently the hubby likes coconut.

(this is the last of the Grabbers, it's my breakfast)

These were good. (yes, even with the coconut but between you and me, I only added 1/3 cup, not as much as the recipe calls for) I made bars instead of cookies. They were good.

(weird looking pan bottom that I just noticed, Huh?)

We ate them all. This is definitely something I will make again. Check out Michelle at Bad Girl Baker - she has the recipe.

Love you.

TWD REWIND....and our anniversary - 07/07/08

This week's recipe for TWD was blueberry sour cream ice cream. How badly I wanted to make it but alas, no ice cream maker. It's on my wish list for later this year. However, I do have a recipe from Dorie's book for Perfect Party cake. Which came in very handy on our 1 year anniversary. Our cake was destroyed when the freezer at our old house died....so I made our cake......

It's so cute....I followed the recipe and only omitted the coconut. Don't like it. Hubby exclaimed it was better than our wedding cake and the best cake I've ever made. (I THINK that is a compliment because he was eaten every OTHER cake I made).

It's two layers, instead of 4 as recipe calls for, with raspberry preserves in the filling. White cake, raspberry and vanilla butter cream just like our wedding cake. I made it in very small cake pans to make it look like a cake topper.

At the LAST minute, I had extra butter cream so I added clowns. I learned these in the Wilton class I took. I thought about making a bride and groom instead of clowns but that would required work and thought. Hubby had dinner on the table and I was ready to enjoy the night. I like the clowns. We laughed.

Of course, the boys/honorary ring bearers got a piece too since they missed the 'real' wedding cake. Don't they look so peaceful.....

....until you release them. They each had a plate but you never know who got the bigger piece so they share one plate at at time...

The boys also toasted us....it was whining and barking but very sweet and emotional.

(Mom - there are your FAVORITE pink flip-flops! I had to break them out and pretend I was on the beach)

The cake and the evening of our 1st anniversary was great. It's so nice to be loved and love.
Love you 2,
Punky

Black and White Bananananananannaana Loaf

Mom - how many 'nanana' are in that word???

Here is my B&W Loaf for the last TWD Challenge....not a lot of drama. It was pretty simple. However, the recipe called for A LOT of dirty dishes. As I started to prepare, I did combine steps to keep the dishwasher load down....

Since I am not a chocolate fan, I was worried. But, I bought a great bar of chocolate (so they say) and set to work....

No significant changes to the recipe, I did remove the Rum as called for. The batter looked runny, at least compared the description in the book. My batter NEVER looked 'curdled'. I think that is a good thing. Nobody likes to be coddled or curdled. I am diggin that Dorie uses grated lemon and fresh lemon juice in her recipes.

I was proud of the marbling.....and those pecans on top were yummy. I threw them on top at the last minute and squished them down as I did my marbling.
Not a clear shot, but the first steamy piece look wonderful...

Tasting Notes; perfect. the choc was not over powerful. probably could use some nanannaers that were more ripe but we loved it.

All dressed up with some fresh cream, choc shavings and more nananananannaanaers...

we ate it all. no big surprise.

The second coming....

I finished this a few weeks ago...it's long, sparkly and lovely....... the husband says it's time to begin harder projects....so i have another treat on the needles and a few patterns ready to go.

Of course, I had 'help' from Junior Knitter Turbo......he really enjoys crafting time.
